SAFIYA HUSSAIN is not only a successful entrepreneur, a certified lawyer and a published author who likes to call herself an ‘aspiring saver of the world, ‘but she is also gorgeous, mash’Allah. As I got to know Safiya, I found her to be a down-to-earth woman who is truly inspiring. Her many accolades include Fusion Entrepreneur of the Year and Northern Lights Business of the Month. She has given a refreshing touch to the journey of Hajj by bravely sharing her personal experience in her autobiography, ‘Three Thousand Miles for a Wish.’ I have a copy on my bookshelf! 2015 has brought to us Safiya’s second book, ‘Happiness Every Day: 365 daily tips for a happier life.’ I agree that the book is a much needed guide toward helping us smile out of genuine joy in the midst of the hustle and bustle of our lives. Hayati Magazine brings to you an interview with the author.

R.What inspired you to write Happiness Every Day?

S.I initially wrote this book for myself. I had read many motivational and inspirational books relating to happiness. Whilst reading these books, I would always feel very inspired to make changes in my life, but I would find that a couple of weeks after completing the book, I’d get swept away by my busy days and completely forget what I had ever read. I needed something that would stay with me every day and not let me forget. I needed a book that would tell me, in black and white, what to do today in order to capture some moments of happiness. And the same for tomorrow and the day after… Guidance, structure, practicality, discipline, step by step rules. I searched everywhere, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. So I decided to do some research and write the book myself.

R.Why do you think people need this book and who is your target audience, considering this is written from a Muslim perspective? Do you believe this can be targeted to all readers despite religion?

S.I think, like myself, people tend to get so caught up in the events of the day that they forget to about the more important things in life. Ultimately, we are all seeking happiness, but perhaps are going about it in the wrong way and looking in the wrong places. We all need guidance and reminders. A reminder; to watch the magical sunrise that Allah blesses us with every day, to view life from a positive angle, to ponder over the purpose of our existence, to smile regularly, to keep fit, to be nice to others, to be grateful. If used properly, I can guarantee this book will help anyone be at least a little bit happier. I haven’t necessarily written this book for Muslim readers. I took into consideration emotions and thoughts of all human beings. I researched happiness from a scientific, spiritual, meditative and Islamic perspective. But I do use Islam as the primary influence in finding happiness and peace. This is because I, personally, do not believe any form of happiness can ever exist without Allah and His blessings. Allah; the Giver and Taker of happiness. So anyone can benefit from this book, but it would be most effective for Muslims.

R.You are a woman of many titles…author, entrepreneur, lawyer! Feel free to add if I am missing anything (giggles). How do you juggle all of these jobs? What is your secret to multi-tasking?

S.We all know women are great at multi-tasking! I don’t have a specific secret, but I mostly work for myself so I can be quite flexible as to what I choose to work on on a particular day. I don’t allow myself to have a work overload as I am a strong believer of having a work-life balance.

R.How can our readers get a hold of your book?

S.The book is available worldwide. There are various buying options listed on www.HappinessEveryDay.co.uk so I ask readers to visit the website first.

R.Your book has the clever twist of giving people a step by step, day by day guide to being happy. Could you please describe how it has worked for you or someone else?

S.I spent three years researching into happiness. The book is based on scientific, Islamic and practical evidence. And during those three years, I had tried every step myself at least once. I am now using the book on a daily basis (she smiles widely).
