More Than Just Figleaves: Modest Fashion

More Than Just Figleaves fashion showcase was held at the Umbrella Arts Gallery in New York City on Sunday, June 7th.

When I first walked in, I was immediately struck by how sophisticated, classic, yet modern the fashion line appeared.

There were standing models adorned by intriguing accessories as in headscarves and shoes which justified Eve Emanuel’s fashion line.

Eve, the designer with a world of experience, yet a humble and modest nature, explained that she believes women deserve to wear what they want to wear without having to worry about whether or not the outfit is modest enough. She found that every time she went into a shop, she had to piece together different parts of an outfit to create an overall modest look. I told her that I could relate as a Muslim woman. This common problem inspired Eve to create a fashion line, whereby the modest woman did not have to think so much about covering up her body, but more about what fashion piece she wanted to wear.

More Than Just Figleaves contains natural shades of oranges and greens, neutral colors and the classic black and white. It seemed to me that Eve had created a line suitable to any personality, whether you are the creative artist, the focused student, the ambitious career woman or even, the gentle mother.

5Each piece of clothing on the rack felt comfortable enough to wear. Not to mention, eco-fabrics! The craftsmanship is flawless, the quality is gentle and the designs… timeless.

Before I left, I made sure to grab a fig!
