C.The Chenille Woman is definitely someone who is not afraid to be bold and stand out in a room. I create my designs in line with my overall being; I never wanted to be the same as everyone or be safe in my style. Whether that was my clothing or my home décor.  I guess this is where my signature evolves from too; working with various colors and textures. Each piece is uniquely blended with vibrant colors, prints and textures.

My inspiration comes from many angles. But more so from travel. My work has allowed me to travel to places I never thought I would, and this has been my major source of inspiration. Seeing different cultures and cities, how they dress, live etc. has been key to my Personal and Professional Development.

R.You are truly talented and your design skills have been enhanced via London College of Fashion and Chenille Boutique is even showcased via House of Fraser

C.Thank you! It has been a long, hard yet enjoyable journey with Chenille. It is now coming up to 10 years since we started the brand and we have introduced many lines. We started off with Indo-Western occasion wear that was mainly catered for the British Indian / Pakistani market selling this only through our UK Boutique.

We went on to introducing RTW Tunics and Abayas and also supply them in wholesale to stockists around the Globe. We also started Chenille Men’s Thobes which has seen exciting heights. The growth of Chenille motivated us to start an online shop which is now fully operational and ships globally.

We have been fortunate enough to be invited to many Fashion Shows and Exhibitions around the World which has led to further global exposure and marketing. This has led us to stock our collections in many Boutiques and stores including House of Fraser.

We are working to introduce more and more lines including a Modest Sports Line and Custom made Wedding line. My ultimate goal is to have a one stop shop for the modern lifestyle.

R.How can we get our hands on your fashion pieces?

C.Our online shop is the best way to access most of our pieces. We are regularly updating our website with new designs. We are active on Instagram on which our stories and feed provide almost ‘real time’ updates. You may also order via DM on our Instagram @chenilleboutique

More so, we offer a 1-1 consultation over Skype and Whatsapp for customized pieces. This is directly with myself where I work with the client to customize their pieces on a step by step basis. I keep the client informed from the initial fabric purchase to the final execution. This way the client is visually kept updated with their customized item.

R.Any advice for up-and-coming designers/rising stars?

C.Be realistic! Just like any other business, having your own brand takes time to evolve. It is also really important to have some sort of Business Acumen or financial knowledge to manage the cash flow wisely and responsibly. It is all good and well to have the most creative and amazing designs but they should also be commercial and be practical. Each designer has their own signature in the way they create their brand, Keep this signature alive but also be conscious of keeping the clothing commercial and sellable.

As your brand grows, you can gradually add new lines / accessories along the way. Take it a step at a time.
