Personal Finance Tips Part 4

Islam advises us to be moderate in all things we do. One such important aspect is financial security. The Sunnah tell us that being too rich is a test to our faith while being extremely poor can do the same thing and make us wallow in self-pity and bitterness.

“When they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, justly moderate.” (Qur’an, 25:67)

To stay in the middle and make life easy on ourselves, keeping track of our income and expenses is very important. Therefore make a personal budget.

You can use :

  • A notebook and a pen  to record in-flows and out-flows of money with simple arithmetic (addition, subtraction, etc.)
  • A check register which is usually customized
  • An Excel spreadsheet (a simple Google search will give you a plethora of choices). Here is an example. You can always tweak these to your liking after you login into gmail.

I’ve used the combination of all these at one point in my life. These days I tend to rely on Excel because it allows me to use formulas and be less manual.

Now, it’s exciting to plan but it’s better to follow through with the plans to see if spending is under control, savings are increasing, and that we still give in charity.

If you don’t have a budgeting system and that you need one, now is a good time to start with the link provided in the text and your own researches insha’Allah. Let’s incite each other in becoming frugal and not stingy to be amongst the righteous insha’Allah. Ameen.

I hope these Personal Finance Tips are beneficial to you.
